The Melbourne Cup is one of horse-racing’s most coveted prizes.
One man who knows all about the hard work involved in chasing a Melbourne Cup is Australian trainer Tony Noonan.
Tony Noonan’s early beginnings
Horse racing has been a huge part of Tony’s life for as long as he can remember.
“I can remember even as a young kid at 15 I got my own room. Where most kids would have put up posters of half naked women, I put up posters of horses on my wall. So it’s always been a passionate thing.”
Tony has spent enough time with horses to gain a fantastic understanding of how to get the most out of them.
“Horses are like children, the most important thing you can give them is consistency. If you can be constant and they get a routine they tend to be happier.”
The Melbourne Cup dream
Like so many racing identities, Tony still dreams about getting his hands on horse-racing’s holy grail – The Melbourne Cup.
“It’s like the Olympic Games or the Grand Final when the focus is on one particular race. You just live in hope. You just never know where that horse is going to come from. That’s the beauty of it, there are no rules. It’s very true to life.”
BeyondTheGame.TV takes you behind the scenes during one of Tony’s freezing early morning training sessions. We find out just what it takes to win a Melbourne Cup.
