Townsville’s Lizette Cabrera is one of Aussie tennis’ brightest stars.
Cabrera was born and raised in Townsville by her parents Ronnie and Maria before moving to Brisbane to train at the National Academy. She has one sister, Izabo and one brother, Carl. Cabrera’s parents are both from the Philippines and both work in a abattoir in order to financially support her career.
First Aussie Open
This year Lizette Cabrera will play in her first ever Australian Open. For Cabrera, it’s a dream come true after years of hard work and sacrifices from both her and her family.
“Obviously it’s everything to me. As an athlete my dream is to represent my country for my sport and to be able to have the opportunity to do that at the Australian Open is crazy.”
Lizette Cabrera rocketed up the rankings last year, moving from outside the top 1000, all the way to 214. 2017 is looking pretty good for the young Queenslander.
