Rory McIlroy’s Round with Donald Trump continues to polarise. It seems to be the biggest golfing event since the Shark threw away the US Open in 1995. There has been so much backlash that former world number 1 McIlroy has been forced to comment on his hit with the Pres.
McIlroy is on the end of a storm of criticism since an Instagram photo revealed he had a round with the controversial president.
Amongst the criticism were calls for McIlroy to “get back to his day job.”

McIlroy was determined to clear the air. He said that the round with big Donald “wasn’t an endorsement or a political statement of any kind. It was, quite simply, a round of golf.”
McIlroy expressed his annoyance in a statement posted to Twitter.
“I don’t agree with everything my friends or family say or do, but I still play golf with them. Last week, I was invited to play golf with the President Of The United States.”
“Whether you respect the person who holds that position or not, you respect the office that he holds.”
“Golf was our common ground, nothing else. I’ve travelled all over the world and have been fortunate enough to befriend people from many different countries, beliefs and cultures.”
“To be called a fascist and a bigot by some people because I spent time in someone’s company is just ridiculous.”
It isn’t the first time McIlroy has met Trump.
We asked Mr Trump for a comment but he wasn’t very impressed with BeyondTheGame.TV.
