The racy comeback of McKayla Maroney is taking the Internet by storm. The two time Olympic medalist and former queen of the memes is coming back to a screen near you in a pretty suggestive way.

Brace yourself people, this is another Instagram success story!

7 seconds of footage is all it took to supercharge the racy comeback of McKayla Maroney. The 21-year-old posted this short video of herself on Instagram and saw it go viral almost instantly. The video gained over 100,000 views in its first 30 minutes of existence along with thousands of comments.

And as it is often the case in these situations, the Internet crowd was quick to show its appreciation.

In an interesting twist though, McKayla Maroney made sure to confirm the veracity of the video when people started to wonder if her Instagram account was hacked.

I have to say it is refreshing to see an athlete own her controversial social media content the way Maroney did. Hopefully this will inspire others.

Olympic Career

McKayla Maroney was a member of the U.S. women’s gymnastics team dubbed the Fierce Five at the 2012 Olympics. That summer she won a gold medal in the team event and an individual silver medal in the vault event.

But Maroney’s medals were over shadowed by the face she made on the podium while accepting her silver medal. A very popular photo captured the moment and the gymnast instantly became the meme of the summer.

The Not Impressed meme was used by everyone about everything. Even the U.S. president at the time, Barack Obama, had a go at the online trend.

Post-Olympic Career

The racy comeback of McKayla Maroney was a few years in the making. After the Olympics, the retired gymnast started a music career with a style she describes as “vulnerable pop because it’s all melody and lyrically driven and heart driven,” whatever that means…

The launch of a long-shot pop music career usually goes hand-in-hand with a massive effort to build a following on Instagram. And this is exactly what Maroney did in a very predictable but very effective manner.

Happy 4th ??

So as you can imagine, it didn’t take long for Maroney to gain over 1M followers with posts like these ones.

The Racy Comeback of McKayla Maroney

It’s never easy for athletes to find a purpose to their after career. Which was one of the discussion topics in the most recent episode of our Podcast – Open Talks (shameless plug).

McKayla Maroney is finding her way and shouldn’t be judged while doing so. She has proven twice now that she can get the whole world’s attention with a simple photo or a few seconds of video. So hopefully she can use that to her advantage in the future.

After all, Kim Kardashian had to do much more than that to get our attention the first time…

Anyway, I’ll let McKayla herself have the last words of wisdom in this article.
