Former AFL star Ben Cousins has allegedly been attacked by fellow inmates in a Perth prison.

The former West Coast Eagles captain was allegedly assaulted by a group of men inside the jail after he said he would not participate in a game of footy, the Nine Network’s The Footy Show said last night.

Sounds familiar?

We thought so too! That’s because you’ve probably seen the Adam Sandler movie The Longest Yard or even the 1974 original. The Cousins story reported by The Footy Show sounds very similar to the plot of the Hollywood film where a former NFL quarterback is forced to play in a prison football game.

The Longest Yard

However there are already some people denying the footy game / Longest Yard story.

Channel 7 is reporting that Cousins’ lawyer is denying that the bashing was caused by Cousins refusing to play a game of footy.

The incident is understood to have happened two weeks ago and left Cousins with a black eye.

Ben Cousins is serving a 12 month sentence for causing “ongoing terror” to his ex-partner.
