Fan brawl

The BBC is reporting that the stadium collapse was triggered after a brawl began among supporters during the match between US Ouakam and Stade de Mbour on Saturday evening.

Police fired tear gas to break the brawl which resulted in panic, confusion and a stampede.

According to witnesses, a wall collapsed under the pressure, crushing supporters.

Another African tragedy

It is the second tragedy of this kind to take place this year in Africa. Back in February, seventeen people died in a stampede at an Angolan football match when hundreds of supporters stormed the stadium gates.
